My advice to newbie online writers out there.

My advice to newbie online writers who want to write romance novels of all genres for online writing apps out there is that as an online novel writer, l encourage you to write long novels of at least 100,000 words or more if you intend to sign an exclusive contract and get a monthly remuneration.

Why do I say so?

I say so because it always begins with a signing bonus which is usually 30,000 words that can randomly be updated.

You apply for a contract with 5000 words and sometimes 10,000 words. Once your book gets signed, you fill-up the 5k or 10k words to 30k words. So if it’s 5k words you applied with, you complete by adding 25k words.

Take note; These 30k words for the signing bonus are not calculated in MAB for the next month. So make sure you read the author’s bonus instructions well.

Don’t get confused!

• Later in, every month signed authors get a fixed manuscript fee based on the daily number of words the updates for that month and the number of days updated for the same month. Which is usually 1000 – 2000 words per day. Everything will be counted and checked scrupulously. Don’t miss out on anything if not you will only have your eyes to cry.

Also, don’t play tricks just to meet up with the word count, be truthfully honest and hard-working because they are watching you and once you are caught making tricks, you will be banned from the app. Who is the loser now? You!

Once you feel these conditions correctly and based on what is indicated in your contract, you will get what we authors call an MAB simply a Monthly Attendant Bonus… That is my favourite part…

– For most apps, you need to write 50,000 words every month for several days which is never less than 25 or greater than 31. You can write for as many months as you which and still get the bonus, so far as you fill in all the conditions.

However, most apps now have changed their policies, so with the conditions stated above, you can only obtain MAB for three months in a row. From the 4th month till infinity, you need to fill in the conditions stated plus, your book needs to generate $20 us dollars in royalties or more depending on the app per month for every month that you get the MAB. So you need to have readers engaging in your book ready to unlock chapters…

Yes it is business, they can keep remuneration for a book that doesn’t generate a profile

Now, imagine your work is only 50,000 words! Your payment would have ended in the first month with the signing bonus only and that is 30k words. So 20k words of your book will go in vain since it’s Eligible for nothing…

So the more you write the more remuneration you get. So make sure you write a good book that can get you an MAB + your Royalty Share at the end of the month.

• For you to obtain your Royalty share from a book, that book has to be on the pay-to-read program where readers pay to unlock chapters to read.

• I’m sure by now, you must be wondering, “How do I make my story long?”

Note that, not only do you have to make your story long, but you also have to make it, attractive to capture readers from the start and interesting to maintain them till the end. So always keep that in mind.

The biggest risk I would like to take — but haven’t been able to?

What’s the biggest risk you’d like to take — but haven’t been able to?

I know it may sound funny but the biggest risk I would like to take — but haven’t been able to take yet is to have sęx!

I’m a twenty-four-year-old girl who is soon going to be 25 years old in about four months or so, yet I’m still so scared of sex. I heard is a beautiful thing when done with the right person?

So where do I get that person called “The right guy?” — Why is my “Right guy?” I’m single, not really searching but open to everything eventually.

I know I will definitely have it but I just don’t know when… I am so eager about the idea but about the act itself, I won’t say that.

I want a real connection above everything.

Yes! That’s my biggest risk! 😂

How do I survive, I don’t know!

What people don’t know about BloggerTMA

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

What people don’t know about me is that; I aspire to, — I mean I soon going to be an erotic author of straight romance only (Hetero) of all genres.

Yes! Very soon I will publish my first erotic book on Amazon Kindle with a different pen name, of course, and I will get myself a different website where I will publish my content!

I’m a bit shy and I have been sceptical about this. Yet, I decided to go on with my project. I won’t only focus on the sex because I love strong plots. However, the sex scenes will be very explicit, and I won’t want any of my family members or friends to know that such “explicity” is coming from me… 🙈

Please, what does this make me? 😂 — A hypocrite?

Story of the first and only laptop, I have ever had so far in my life!

Your life without a computer: what does it look like?

Actually, I don’t have a computer. Although I will really love to have one.

My first and ever computer, I mean the only one I ever had was bought to me by my mother about seven years ago, (May her soul rest in peace! 🙏) I was 17 years old.

That computer wasn’t brand new at all, neither was it even a 2nd hand. It was a 4th or 5th hand if I may say 😂😂… and trust me, Africa’s 2nd hands ain’t as new as what you all usually see in your shops, it’s a bit older than that. So you can imagine how my laptop was 😂😂… But you needed to see the joy on her face when she handed it over to you. I was so excited as well!

Nonetheless, it was functioning well. To date, I haven’t had the means to get anyone. Although I need it even more as a writer… So my life has been going on smoothly without a computer/laptop so far. For now, I write everything on my phone and I’m still grateful for that.

However, let me answer this question in another sense.

Let’s say; Your Life Without, the Internet: what does it look like?

To be sincere; like shit! 😂

I mean, I don’t see myself as a day without internet. Of course, life and things around me might go on smoothly, but if I don’t have an internet connection, I will feel like I am missing something very important, like a part of me is lacking, feel incomplete, etc… Meanwhile, I’m actually missing nothing online, nothing is lacking or going on online or no one has even texted me or even like my posts…

The truth is, I’m not online for anyone, but being connected to all these social media makes me feel alive, feeling connected to thousands of people, and it makes me feel available for whoever needs me. I like rolling with the technology too…

Moreover, my little and only source of money, for now, is made online and I will be miserable without it.

Last but not least, I would also love to leave my traces in this world through online media by my achievements so that people will talk about me even when I’m not more. 🥰

I hope you love hearing me talk! 😂

The details of my life which I could pay more attention to

What details of your life could you pay more attention to?

Hmmm… 🤔

I think the part of my life I could pay more attention to, is my love for writing and see it as a career and also a source of income…

Moreover, my unique sense of analyzing people, things and situations. I’m an overthinker 👌

BloggerTMA’s thoughts about tomorrow

What’s your #1 priority tomorrow?

Like the bible says, “Don’t worry about tomorrow because tomorrow shall take care of itself” 😉

My #1 priority for tomorrow as a single day or for tomorrow as my future? — Difficult for me to answer…

So for me, this question is a broad and a bit unforeseen one, because tomorrow never ends, tomorrow has no end, —-And to every living day, there is a tomorrow ready to take care of itself…

… because no one knows tomorrow! 👌

~~~~
Ps; don’t overthink it, I don’t even know what I’m composing. Yeah, I’m just an overthinker who likes playing with words… 🤗
The last difficult “goodbye” I ever said was too… (…)
Describe the last difficult “goodbye” you said.
When I saw my mum giving up her last breath without knowing that she was actually giving up her last breath and that was the last most difficult “#goodbye” of my life.
Which contract type is the best to sign with online writing apps
A lot of you come to me asking which type of contract is good. But seriously I can’t answer that question for you because only you know what is suitable for you, not me.
Also, both contract types have its advantage and disadvantages. However, what seems a disadvantage to me might be an advantage to you. 😂
So, to the best of my ability, I will simply list their advantages and disadvantages to you. And please every suggestion is welcome. You can forward them directly to my email author@bloggertma.com
Bellow, I will give you a list of things to do or to check on yourself before writing an exclusive contract.
1) Exclusive Licence
I had a bad experience with my first exclusive contract on an app but this doesn’t go with everybody and every app. However, this hasn’t stopped me from grabbing exclusive contracts thou.
i) What to check (personal checks)
Can you update daily? because for me there is no point in taking an exclusive contract if you can’t update daily to meet up with the monthly required words. You gain from your daily updates at the end of the month. This is called the daily updates bonus and it’s paid every month once you reach the number of words required per month which is 50,000 words at least.
Can you write long stories? Yes! for me, it’s very important to write a story of at least 100,000 words with at least 100 chapters ( especially for apps like NovelStar which offer chapter bonuses which is very rare to find). Also, a long story will help you get daily updates for a long period even if your book doesn’t perform well.
If you are been paid $80 every month for updating 50,000 words. Just imagine you updated 50,000 words for 10months that is;
$80 x 10 = $800 😌😌
Also the more word you obtain the high amount for the completion bonus.
What type of a person are you? And What are your projects for your book in the nearest future? Are you the type of person who doesn’t like giving up your rights, what are your principles?. This is a personal check. I always tell people to do what they feeling that is good for them so that if it turns bad at the end of the day you won’t regret or play the blame game.
Also, are you planning to self publish your book? or you just want it on a fixed platform?.
🥰🥰If your answers are no to my first, two checks, please rethink it.🥰🥰
ii) Advantages
With exclusive contract,
Plagiarism: Your book is safe from plagiarism since the app will fight anyone who tries to steal your work. People might steal your book but once the app catches them, they will pay for it or simply take the book down. Big apps have resources to pursue such in court but this will be too expensive for an individual.
Promotion: once you get exclusive with an app they will automatically promote your book on their front page even if it’s not for long. Yes! Because they need to earn from it and to regain all they spent on you when you are/were writing (all the monthly payments from your daily updates bonus etc…) that 50% share they give and the 50% they take it’s used to fill the gap. Some apps even offer as small as 8% revenue shares from exclusive apps like Dreame. Some 20%
However, no need for self-promotion. So getting money from your work will hardly be a problem unless readers don’t appreciate your work. Here ist, not the app’s fault.
Escape from poor performance and no revenue from the (%) share you will get: with exclusive your work can hardly perform poorly because the app can even pay editors to profound your work especially if you have the potential. This is rare for now but I guess with time all those apps will do this especially when readers will start demanding high-quality books free from grammatical errors before spending their money.
iii) Disadvantages
Infinite contract or licence: this is what I hate with all exclusive licences now. At first, most apps offered five years contracts for exclusive which was excellent and very appealing. Suddenly, they have all diverted to infinite contracts. This means you will never claim your book from them. You remain the author with your rights but everything that concerns your book deals with them and they just inform you.
2) Non-Exclusive Licence
With a None Exclusive license all of the above mentioned “personal checks” aren’t required because even if you update daily you won’t have any monthly bonus. Also, you can write long, short stories depending on your capabilities or needs. You don’t bother about daily updates, book-length etc…
However, I will advise you to have a constant update at least twice or two chapters per week. I know it sounds easy but seriously non-exclusive contracts render one very lazy since you don’t expect any salary at the end of the month. A constant update and daily updates might make you; consistent in your writing, get you more readers, also make the app quickly promote your book and so you will earn more.
Also, I won’t advise a nonexclusive contract to a newbie writer. If you are writing your very first book, I advise you to go for an exclusive. I know the terms are Harsh but you should go for it. As a newbie, you need consistency which is the key to improvement. However, if you are sure of you self you can go for non-exclusive.
i) Advantage
Rights; with this licence, you keep all the rights to your book as you can post them on different plate forms and also obtain a signing bonus. You can take down your book from the platforms at any moment especially if you haven’t earned from them. But once you earn it’s difficult to take it down unless time of the licence expires.
Always sign finite contracts with non-exclusive. Read your contract well because some non-exclusive contracts from some apps might hinder you from publishing your books on other apps.
Apps that are good for non-exclusive in terms of contract types are Moboreader, Readoo, Bravonovel, NovelCat (but insist on five years), etc…
– No pressure; you are free to update when you want and how you want.
ii) Disadvantages
– Plagiarism; you aren’t free from this. No app will fight for a book that is on other apps. I mean no app will. So you will fight this fight alone.
-Promotion; most apps don’t offer promotions on the first page for Non-exclusive books unless it’s outstanding. Some apps promote regardless like Novelcat, GoodNovel, etc…
So the risk of earning nothing from your book is very right. However, I know people who excel with non-exclusive books. So invest more in yourself.
Conclusion;
– Always remember that you are a creator.
– Don’t hold too much to a particular book, because the book you neglect might be your best book.
– No app is perfect!. However, don’t let any app make you think that earning from your book is bad. There is nothing wrong with earning from your passion or talent.
– Only Go for legit apps. ☺️
Significance of Exclusive and Non-exclusive licence in terms of online book publishing for newbies authors.
Significance of Exclusive and Non-exclusive licence in terms of online book publishing for newbies authors.
A lot of newbies authors like me always come to me asking the difference between an exclusive or non-exclusive licence contract according to the online writing pushing terms. I keep explaining the same thing over and over again and it sucks.
I hope this helps you understand the difference between both contracts types. Most importantly for you to realize which contract type is best for you!.
Always make sure that before signing any document of any kind, you understand the terms.
A lot of newbie writers sign contracts without understanding the terms. They get overwhelmed about the cash offered and forget the essential. In the end, they end up regretting it. So don’t fall, victim to such misconception.
I will define and explain it to the best of my ability and understanding.
1) Exclusive contract.
Exclusive means; limited, restricted etc… From its name exclusive, you can understand.
An exclusive licence is one where the licensee (the app) is given the full right to commercialise the book solely.
On the other hand, means only one person has the legal right to use the product (book or story). From its name exclusive mean reserve to one (one app or publishing house etc.).
Exclusive, ” however, actually means only one person has the right to the product for the given numbers of year’s agreed by the licensee and the licensor.
This means giving all your right to the publishing app or house. So you have no say over the book or story again. This is practically not yours anymore!.
The phrase sole and exclusive license certainly occur in granting language.
2) Non-Exclusive contract.
From its name, one can understand, non-exclusive; not limited to, etc…
A NonExclusive Licence grants the licensee the right to use the intellectual property (product) but means that the licensor (author) remains free to exploit the same intellectual property and to allow any number of other licensees (publishing apps or houses) to also exploit the same intellectual property.
This is not limited to only one person or organization, or one group of people or organizations.
A nonexclusive agreement/ deal/ licence means you can publish the same story in different apps at the time without asking for anyone’s opinion.
With this agreement, the author remains the sole owner of its work and all rights are re severed to the author.
I hope this piece on “Significance of Exclusive and Non-exclusive licence in terms of online book publishing for newbies authors” helped you in your understanding.
Also, make sure you choose the contract type that suits your needs and always ready the app’s benefit and condition regarding both licenses to see if you can fulfil the condition before going ahead to sign, not to forfeit cash.
